About Us

Using the latest in data modeling and machine techniques, Performance Genetics is the only company that utilizes DNA markers, cardiovascular and biomechanical measurements in a single prediction model to make selection of champion racehorses as accurate as possible.

While this is a scientific endeavor that is driven by the data we collect, we also place an emphasis on using our horsemanship and experience in the thoroughbred industry to achieve a balance between the science and practical horse knowledge and horsemanship.

Please feel free to take a look at our success stories as well as our informative blog and contact us should you have any questions

The Team

John Eberth, PhD candidate

John has been involved in all aspects of the horse industry for over 40 years. It began in Morgan horses when he was 6 years old. Shortly after, John’s family started Little King Farm Inc. where he learned to train, show and manage various show horse breeds. In 1996, John and his wife Melinda started Arion Management Inc. near Lexington Kentucky. Arion was recognized throughout the world as highly experienced and trusted in showing, breeding, and management. John was a world-renowned trainer and breeder for 25 years and a licensed show judge for 10 years, retiring in 2013.

John is completing his PhD in equine genetics at the University of Kentucky Gluck Equine Research Center where he also received his MSc in equine genetics in 2013.  He is noted for the discovery of the genetic cause of dwarfism in horses, as well as co-authored work in genetic variation of mature height in horses, skeletal atavism, Equine Arteritis Virus persistent carrier susceptibility and equine racing performance. Some current projects are genetic research involving cartilage and performance failure in racehorses, muscle fatigue in racehorses and morphometrics related to genetic disease.
